Dr Ian Maclennan and Prof. Jenny Hazelton head to Taiwan at the end of April with six acting students. They will be working with Taiwanese students at Providence University in Taichung City to rehearse and present two children’s plays, LITTLE RED AND THE HOODS and AESOP’S FABLES at the end of May. These plays will be presented as the final events at Providence’s English Festival, sponsored by the University’s Department of English Language, Literature and Linguistics. They will also be performed for the public at the Seaport Art Center Shalu.
While in Taiwan, the students and faculty will be participating in workshops at local universities and high schools, as well as learning about Taiwanese culture and taking Mandarin lessons. They will be living on campus and soaking up the campus atmosphere as students living in Taiwan.
This is Thorneloe’s fifth year of collaboration with Providence University, which began with Dr Maclennan directing a Shakespeare project for the English Department in 2012. In 2013, Prof. Hazelton joined the collaboration as acting and movement coach. This is the second year that students and faculty of both universities have collaborated on producing plays at Providence.
