YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS WELCOME NEW DIRECTORS
THE YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS, Sudbury’s premiere choir for children and youth, are pleased to announce their new team of directors for the 2017-18 season.
HEATHER CHARSLEY, our Junior Choir director since 2012, will lead the Senior Choir (ages 10-17). Heather currently teaches music and the arts at C R Judd Public School, and serves as the director of music at St. Alban the Martyr Church.
Heather takes over from Dr. David Buley, who founded the YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS in 2007. David and his partner Jan Buley moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland this past May to assume faculty positions at Memorial University.
The newest member of the YSS team, VALERIE WHITEHEAD, will direct the Junior Choir (ages 7-9). Val currently teaches music, drama and dance at Copper Cliff Public School where she directs many music ensembles. She is a current member of the Bel Canto Chorus and a past member of the Sudbury Chamber Singers and Kampana Handbells.
NEW MEMBERS WELCOME!
All young musicians in Grades 2 to 12 are invited to join the YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS. Participants can expect to sing, laugh, and learn a wide variety of music in a safe and supportive environment that will foster a lifelong love of singing.

The Sudbury Theatre Centre’s presentation of “A Christmas Story” – December 7 to 20
A concert with the Heart & Soul Singers – Saturday, April 28, 2018
“Lunch with a Lake” concert at the Living with Lakes Centre, Laurentian University – Friday, May 4, 2018
Registration for the 2017-2018 season is on Wednesday, September 13 from 6-7 pm, at Sudbury Secondary School, 154 College Street. Rehearsals for the choir’s two ensembles will be held every Wednesday until mid-May. THE JUNIOR CHOIR will rehearse from 6 to 7 pm, and THE SENIOR CHOIR will rehearse from 6 to 7:30 pm. All rehearsals will be held at Sudbury Secondary School
The YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS will hold their annual Choral Retreat on Saturday, September 30, from 10 am to 3 pm, also at Sudbury Secondary School. (Lunch will be provided.)
YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS have kept registration fees low so that the choir remains accessible to all youth in the community. Fees are $250 per year, $200 per year for a second child in the same family, and $125 per year for any additional siblings. Fees are reduced by 10% if forms and payment are received by Friday September 1. Fundraising activities can help to further offset these costs. Families may also apply to our Sponsorship Fund to partially subsidize their fees

YOUNG SUDBURY SINGERS was established in 2007 by Dr. David Buley, former Associate Professor of Music Education at Laurentian University. The choirs present two concerts annually and regularly perform at community events in the Greater Sudbury area. A member of Choirs Ontario, they have appeared on CBC Radio and the CTV-Lions Club Telethon, and earned a Gold or High Gold Standard at each of the last eight Kiwanis Music Festivals.
