The deadline is fast approaching to enter events on-line for Culture Days events. Friday Sept. 19th will be the cutoff to register activities at www.culturedays.ca Already over 50 individuals will take part presenting various Culture Days events in Greater Sudbury the weekend of Friday Sept. 30th, Saturday Oct. 1st and Sunday Oct. 2nd with the opening event an “Arts Future Focus Forum Town Hall” discussion on Arts Education, municipal assistance for individual artists and possible future Arts use for the present Sudbury Arena on Friday evening at 5.00 p.m. at the Cambrian College Open Studio, 93 Cedar Street, corner of Cedar and Larch Streets.
Also on Friday and again on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. a mixed-media installation and performance entitled “BrokeDownTown by the Crestfallen Theatre group will take place in downtown Sudbury with location provided to those who register in advance and obtain their free tickets. On Friday and also on Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 noon to 4.00 p.m.each day Hadyn Butler and Jack Dardick will be displaying and demonstration copper foil stained glass technique at the Plant Place Stained Glass property at 2354 Long Lake Road.
Members of the Walden Arts Club will participate in the “Artists in Action Show” at the Walden Arena (Tom Davies Community Centre) from 10am to 4pm on Oct. 1st and 2nd and invite the public to try their hand at painting. Also during the same times five local progressive artists will exhibit their art in a variety of media with behind the scenes explanation at the Warehouse Studio 338 John Street in Sudbury.
On Saturday Oct. 1st from 2.00 until 2.30 p.m. Roger Nash, former Sudbury poet laureate, will launch his new book ZIGZAGS at the Sudbury main library reading room with a reading followed by discussion. At the Open Studio, 93 Cedar Street from 9 to 5.00 p.m. Artists Fabian and Ron will exhibit and discuss their work.
On Sunday those persons who have never attended a Sudbury Theatre performance are invited to a complimentary 2.00 p.m. showing of the first show of the 45th STC anniversary season “Armstrong’s War “to be followed by a Question and Answer session. A complimentary Back Stage Tour will be open to the general public at 3.30 p.m. Also on Sunday a number of Artists in the Valley East area of the city will exhibit and provide insight into their work from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1473 Olivia Street in Val Caron. On Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at 1546 Bellevue Avenue in Minnow Lake, stained glass artist Wolfgang Suppan will explain the background and development of his latest creation “Sudbury” utilizing traditional lead technique while mutli-media artist Monqique Legault will demonstrate and comment on the growing popularity of commissioned art work.
