On Wednesday, May 18, the 2016 Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts will be presented at a gala reception at the Sudbury Theatre Centre. The finalists were announced at a news conference this morning. The awards event, now in its third year, is a project of the Sudbury Arts Council in collaboration with Regroupement des organismes culturels de Sudbury (ROCS). In addition to the honour of being recognized by their peers, the artists will be awarded cash bursaries to help them continue to pursue their creative projects. The Award for Outstanding Emerging Artist, a cash prize of $2,000, will be presented.

Dr Ian Maclennan and Prof. Jenny Hazelton head to Taiwan at the end of April with six acting students. They will be working with Taiwanese students at Providence University in Taichung City to rehearse and present two children’s plays, LITTLE RED AND THE HOODS and AESOP’S FABLES at the end of May. These plays will be presented as the final events at Providence’s English Festival, sponsored by the University’s Department of English Language, Literature and Linguistics.
