Volunteers needed for the 40th annual La Cloche Art Show

The La Cloche Art Show will be celebrating it’s 40th anniversary in 2017 and planning has begun for the June 30 to July 9 exhibit. Volunteers are needed for a 3 hour shift ( 11 – 2 or 2 – 5 ) at the Whitefish Falls Community Centre during the show. Numerous students and faculty in Thorneloe University’s Motion Picture Arts Program spotlighted at Cinéfest

Thorneloe University, federated with Laurentian University, is proud to announce that the students and faculty in its Motion Picture Arts (MPArts) program have an impressive presence at this year’s edition of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival. Finalists in Cinéfest’s “CTV Best in Shorts Competition” include two shorts by current MPArts students, and one from a former student. All three productions were assignments produced in the course titled Production II, the second of the three core production courses in the MPArts program. Current MPArts students Masha Potapov and Zahra Golafshani will screen their shorts “Couple of Friends” and “Private Sessions” respectively..

New study on the arts in rural communities examines three regions in Canada. Findings to be launched at the SPARC Symposium, Pinestone Resort & Conference Centre, Haliburton, Ontario,October 27 – 30, 2016 Whitehorse, Yukon – “The specific characteristics of the performing arts eco-system matters to whether it can fuel vibrant rural communities.” With this hypothesis in mind, Inga Petri investigates whether there are common criteria or success indicators for building a sustainable, rural arts community. This exploratory research draws on existing literature about arts in rural communities as well as Inga Petri’s work with organizations in rural communities from coast.

Deadline for Sudbury Culture Days Submissions Friday Sept. 19th.

The deadline is fast approaching to enter events on-line for Culture Days events.  Friday Sept. 19th will be the cutoff to register activities at www.culturedays.ca   Already over 50 individuals will take part presenting  various Culture Days events in Greater Sudbury the weekend of Friday Sept. 30th, Saturday Oct. 1st and Sunday Oct. 2nd with the opening event an “Arts Future Focus Forum Town Hall” discussion on Arts Education, municipal assistance for individual artists and possible future Arts use for the present Sudbury Arena on Friday evening at 5.00 p.m. at the Cambrian College Open Studio, 93 Cedar Street, corner of Cedar.

Culture Days Opening Event – Arts Future Focus Forum Sept. 30th

The seventh annual Canada wide Culture Days weekend will open this year in Sudbury on Friday Sept. 30th with a Town Hall meeting to discuss the Future of the Arts in Sudbury and featuring a presentation by Dr. David Robinson of Laurentian University. He will explore a proposal for an Arts Education Centre for the Northeast to be located in Greater Sudbury. Local artists will have the opportunity to contribute their views on what can be done in the community to allow their talents to flourish through a discussion moderated by Sudbury Living magazine editor, Vicki Gilhula.
